We have a house with a flat roof and now need a roof over the entrance. If possible, we would like a flat roof over the entrance as well, but without the support of any brackets to maintain the style of the house, like an awning but in wood. The plan is for it to be about 4 meters long (along the house wall) and extend out 80-90 cm, essentially hanging from the house wall. I envision having joists (approximately 200x45) attached at a right angle to the house wall with angle brackets, one on each side at the top of the joist. Is it possible to do it this way, or will the stresses be too large from the overhang? (Roof covering will be rubber mat and probably also sedum (about 50 kg/m2)).

Canopies without brackets, commonly found on modernist houses, are typically supported by beams (wood or steel) that extend into the floor structure. Retrofitting this feature can often be very labor-intensive and extensive. One possible solution is for the leading edge of the canopy to hang from thin diagonal wires attached to the house facade. If the wires are made thin enough, they are not visible from a distance. With sedum, it becomes a rather heavy roof.
