Ceiling ductwork for a kitchen hood with flexible and rigid vent pipes connected to an exhaust vent in the wall. Current situation.

I am in the final phase in the kitchen and now it's time to cover the exhaust pipe from the fan.

Now I need your help and tips!

My idea is to build a framework of metal studs and cover it with gypsum. On the short side, I will mount an inspection hatch.

3D model of a kitchen exhaust duct plan, showing a proposed metal frame structure with plasterboard and an inspection hatch on the side. Desired end goal.

However, I have never worked with metal studs so I have no idea what tracks and studs I should use.

What do you experts say?

John

I haven't done much with metal studs, but I've built a couple of boxes in a similar style to what you want. I've used regular angle profiles. It can be a bit tricky to get the screws to drill into the metal. The easiest way is actually to pre-drill with 1.5 - 2.5 mm straight through the gypsum and metal.

But you must fireproof the pipe, especially against the combustible ceiling.

Sure, I've already taken care of the fire insulation. Can I use the same rule for the ceiling as the wall, etc.?
