Hello!

Planning to build a glass-enclosed patio with a single-pitch roof. As usual, there is limited space/height between the eaves at the low wall and the deck floor. I plan to build an insulated roof with tongue and groove boards, roofing felt, and rolled metal roofing.
The distance between the house wall and the patio wall is about 4 meters. The achievable roof slope will be around 10 degrees with 195x45 joists. Now to the question, should I place the joists at 60 cm centers or glue and screw double joists together and place them at 120 cm centers? Which of these options is stronger?
I am not considering glulam, there will be snow guards on the house roof and I am aware of the snow load that can occur, and I am ready with a snow shovel on the roof during snowfall.

Best regards, Andreas

The advantage of your roofing solution is that you can go up and shovel snow. 45x195 of structural timber is still far too weak for that span, even considering shoveling snow with large snow amounts. Laying 45x195 on c/c 600 mm or double screw-glued on c/c 1200 mm gives the same result. I suggest glulam 90x180 on c/c 600 mm. Then you will be satisfied. I based this on snow zone 2, which covers large parts from Stockholm and southwards.
