Okay. No, I don't think it's completely hopeless, I think it will actually work. But you don't need to tighten the nuts too forcefully, as there might be a risk they come loose, so just tighten them so they are snug. You can test loading the shelf a bit to see if it really holds before adding too much weight. The worst that can happen is that the bolts come loose, and then you have other options (y) yes, please do that, it's interesting to know. Good luck

or make it simple, scrape off paint and loose material for the upper bracket and attach it with Husfix to the ceiling

Oops, I see now that I was really bad at following up. Anyway, we just got tired of it and put it up without having had time to buy anchor compound. We simply attached it with screws to the ceiling and complemented with small angle irons against the wall in two places. It ended up being very simple and so far (after about two months) it's stayed up without any problems.
