I have quite a bit of home-sawn timber in a suitable dimension that I was thinking of using as nail battens, but then it occurred to me that it might need to be planed timber?
I was planning to cut the angle with the circular saw so that any water runs off, but then it would be absorbed instead by the sawn exterior?
