Hi,
I am in the process of renovating a house from '69, having ripped out everything to the paneling on all the walls and ceilings in the kitchen and living room. Most of the walls were covered with Tretex panels except for certain parts of the kitchen which had a masonite(?) panel. What these walls have in common is that behind the Tretex and masonite panel, there was a paper coated with aluminum, intended to stop warm steam from penetrating into the insulation, I suppose?

As someone not knowledgeable in this area, I would think I need to replace it with something? Is plastic the way to go, or are there other alternatives?
Please link suitable options or explain to someone who doesn't understand why it might not need replacing :)

Thanks in advance
Johnny
