Hello everyone,

I'm planning to replace the garage door with vertical paneling and a door, making it a utility entrance. It's a typical garage with a slight slope downwards, allowing moisture to seep in quite easily, even though it's relatively sheltered from certain directions.

Placing a beam directly on the ground seems unwise, and I'm considering if the recommendation is to cast a curb/wall to lift it a bit off the ground. Mainly so that the vertical paneling maintains a good distance from the ground and the beam closest to the ground isn't too close. (even with a sill).

What do you think, what's the best approach?

  • Entrance area with fallen leaves, concrete surface, and a door threshold. Some wooden planks and a log can be seen on the left side.
  • Concrete area in front of a black garage door with scattered wood debris and autumn leaves; adjacent to a brick wall.
Cast up so you get a base the same as the brick
