Hello,

I live in a trivselhus with a small porch. In connection with this porch, I want to build a patio, and in doing so, I would like to remove a column. The question is - can I dare to do that or is it load-bearing?

See image.
  • The porch is outlined with a red dotted line.
  • The pillar marked in blue is of course load-bearing and should be retained.
  • It is the green pillar I want to remove.
  • The distance between the house wall and the blue pillar is less than 4m.

The feeling is that it shouldn't be a problem to cut it since the distance is so short. But I would still like to base the decision on a bit more facts.

That it has to do with the dimension of the roof truss is obvious - I have looked at the Swedish Wood's "roof truss handbook" but just become more uncertain. So now I hope for the combined strength of the forum :)

So,
Question 1: How do I know if the roof truss is correctly dimensioned to withstand me cutting the green pillar?
Question 2: Does the cutting of the green pillar have any impact on the blue pillar that needs to be considered?

Thanks in advance!

Show the whole plan, otherwise it's hopeless to assess.

Architectural blueprint showing detailed construction plans with measurements, sections, and structural details for a building project. A detailed house floor plan showing various rooms including living room, kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms, sauna, and veranda with measurements.

Most indications suggest that the green pillar is primarily for decoration. I can't find any information on dimensions in your attached drawings, but I would probably take a chance on removing it.

Thanks for the response. Went up to the attic and here it looks like this:
Attic space showing wooden beams, a 140x45 beam resting on a blue post, and a 70x45 beam possibly for ceiling support. Highlighted joints with nails.
The lower rule of the roof truss is about 140x45 and beneath it is a 70x45 rule. However, only the 140x45 rule rests on the blue post, which makes me think that the 70x45 rule is more for the "inner ceiling" of the veranda.
Also, the fact that the green rule only seems to be fastened with two nails (red circle) suggests to me that it is not load-bearing.

But I gratefully welcome more input, even though I'm currently leaning towards daring to remove it.

If you had included the entire truss drawing from the beginning, one could see what is visible now with the help of your photos. You have truss roof trusses, which means that the green post has no function in supporting the roof.

Thanks for the help!
