Planning to add insulation under the wood facade and wondering what to use for spacer battens, nail rules, or whatever it's called (a dear child has many names). I will attach 45x45 to the existing frame, wind barrier, then spacer battens. I've read everything from plywood strips to 34x70 and wonder what function a thicker dimension serves. It just unnecessarily builds up the facade and I suspect that the extra ventilation isn't needed? It's also much more expensive. I can't imagine that a plywood strip or equivalent dimension on a 45 rule, on a frame wouldn't be enough to attach a vertical facade to. I welcome all comments and tips!
