Dismantling a log house, how do you do it?
Hello,
I am seriously considering dismantling a log house, and then putting the house back together without it becoming a complete "plockepinn". How do I do that???
Is there anyone with experience in this area on the site?
Thanks for all the posts

I have moved a couple of smaller log houses, but the principle is the same for all houses.
1. Photograph EVERYTHING
2. Label the logs with both layer and side (for example A1, B1, C1, D1 for layer 1, A2, B2, C2:1, C2:2, D2 (if, for example, there is a door on side C))
Also label interior walls if they are made of timber. If you have a "real" floor, label this, if you plan to keep doors and windows, etc., label them, and so on and so on. Labeling is done either directly on the logs with a pencil or knife. A tip is to label on waterproof flooring pieces and nail these to the end grain (2 on each log so that a backup always remains).
When EVERYTHING is labeled, double-check, double-check, and double-check, as well as photograph and document. Remember to label in which direction the logs were placed (in cases where it can be set incorrectly). I forgot this once. Unfortunately, it was the ridge beam that I had forgotten to label, which meant I had to take it down, change direction, and lift it up again....
Moving a timber frame is actually simple, but it's heavy, so a forwarder or small crane might be appropriate.
Time aspect: A bare frame of 30-40 m2 without interior walls we labeled and moved in one day (2 people and a 4-wheeler)

Hi Henrik! I would like to move a 40 sqm cottage, do you know anyone or can you help me? It is located in Stockholm. I would love to save a beautiful cottage and am ready to get started but need to hire an expert, thank you in advance.H henrik_R said:I have moved a couple of small log houses, but the principle is the same for all houses.

Henrik has not been active for 15 years so you probably shouldn't expect any answers now....Y yaesomi said:
