Now, when I was out walking, I came across an excavator that was in the area and he had time to come next week. So it happened much faster than I had anticipated.
I would need some feedback on my sizing so that I haven't thought completely wrong.
Black marking - what needs to be excavated
Round circles - footings 200 mm
Red lines - double 45x195 C24 pressure-treated
Blue lines - 45x220 C24 construction timber
Single-story expansion. Trussed roof with a 27° pitch.
Does it seem sensible?
I suggest that you change the direction of your beams, both the red and the blue ones. The roof loads are transferred down via the longitudinal exterior walls, and it's good to have a solid load-bearing stringer underneath. Four red double screw-laminated 45x220 pressure-treated with four pillars under each. For the blue ones, 45x170 C 24 will suffice.
Thank you, good explanation
However, I want more insulation, hence 220mm.
The plinths closest to the house might be difficult to place as close to the house as desired. Can one have a small overhang there on the bearing beams?
One more question about splicing the floor joists.
The distance between the pillars, and thus also the red floor beams, will be about 2.6m.
Should I then make it so the splices land above each floor beam, staggered every other floor joist?
So in the first row, it will be a joist 5.2 + 2.6m, and in the second row, it will be vice versa 2.6 + 5.2m.
