Hello,
I'm planning to build a small deck for my storage shed 6m x 2.20, i.e., along the entire shed and 2.20 out. I want to manage with a foundation of concrete blocks and attach a beam to the shed. What would you choose for the dimensions of the beam and outer support board + floor joists (I'll probably use the standard 60 cm spacing between them)?
I asked a quite experienced builder who thought 2*4 (i.e., 45*95?) would be sufficient, but it feels like I would prefer 45*145 anyway. What do you think?
Thanks/David

The problem is not the main beam's dimension but that you only want a single row of piers and therefore get long spans for the floor joists to rest on.

I would have gone with 2 rows of piers and 45*95 on everything, then it would have worked fine and not become shaky.

Okay thanks, I've been thinking along those lines too, but suppose I just want to lay a plintrad (bökigt bergigt underlag where the center plintraden would lie in that case), is 45x145 sufficient everywhere or is at least 45x195 required for it to be reasonably sturdy?

45*95 should probably suffice, I would think, but I would take something a bit thicker, like 45x120 at least. The distance between supports should not exceed 2 meters, by the way.

Ok thanks, then it will probably be 45x145 with a span of 220 and then 4 plint on the 6 meters.

Why don't you want any overhang? You don't necessarily need to have the row of plints exactly 220 cm out, right? ~190 cm out should be enough...

It is mainly that it is not until about 220 cm out that it feels reasonably smooth to lay concrete slabs/Leca blocks, due to uneven rock and other things under the future decking. But if you were to do an overhang, it is not a problem that the outer support beam does not have any support from underneath in that case?
