Hello!

We are in the process of doing some renovations at home, including replacing the insulation in the roof and walls. (The reason for the replacement - the moisture damage - has been fixed, just the smell remains. The outer roof is replaced, the whole house is properly drained, vapor barrier on the concrete slab, etc.)

Previously, the vapor barriers in the house weren't great, for example, up towards the ceiling on the upper floor, where there was a gap and the insulation had a quite distinct color and smell.

We've previously removed the ceiling on the lower floor and then installed a vapor barrier between the ceiling joists and the gypsum board.

What we are now considering is if and how the vapor barrier should be placed under the floor on the upper floor and where the vapor barrier under the ceiling on the upper floor should end?

I have made a small sketch of how it currently looks, the measurements aren’t accurate, the attic space is deeper, etc. Previously, there have been sparse planks on the outside of the insulation towards the attic, but it looks like they have moisture spots. What do you usually put there? Where should the vapor barrier on the inside of the upper floor ceiling end? At floor height as it does now? Pulled in a bit under the floor? There shouldn't be a need for a vapor barrier between the subfloor joists and the underlay paper, right?
