Did people steal window sills in the past?
Sitting and trying to figure out how people could afford window sills in the past. In my house, built in 1937, there are black stone window sills that are 3 cm thick.
Now I've checked with two stone quarries to see how much such things can cost, as I want the same ones on the new upper floor.
If it's granite slabs, you have to pay around 2000 per countertop (130 cm long) if I want them about 20 cm deep.
Alternatively, you can go for Azul Valverde, which is some dark brown/black/gray limestone from Portugal, which costs roughly 700-1000 SEK.
I guess it's either granite or black limestone that we have, but the question remains: Was stone insanely cheap in the past or did people steal it?

The black stone in the bench... could it be polished black slate? Then it might be cheaper than granite slabs (softer and easier to work with). I have a black stone staircase to the basement made of black slate, and you can see gray fossils in it in some places. Otherwise, it's quite uniformly black (and not for sale
).
Hope you find your windowsills at the right price

Sure, it doesn't have to be granite, but due to the absence of fossil materials and the presence of some mica in the slab, I am doubtful about limestone.
It could possibly be slate, but I'm unsure - I haven't seen polished slate.
I called Stenfirma Valter Eklund
(http://www.stenfirma-eklund.se/)
and they are open on Saturdays. I simply have to go there and check out the stone samples and compare them with the window sill I bring along.
Thanks for now...

Silvan has some type of granite window sills for under 500 SEK each, the price depends on the length and other dimensions and type of stone (last time I checked, China white (black and white) was cheaper than New Africa (dark gray)). _If_ I remember correctly, the thickness is 20 mm.
