Hi!
My first post. Hope I've placed it in the right spot. I'm about to open up between the kitchen and living room. I know that a building notification is required before it can be done. I've stripped the wall to see the wall construction.

The wall is load-bearing, but it's a relatively short part of the wall. The current doorway is 80 cm. The desired opening will be about 220 cm. The wall needs to be supported, what dimension of laminated beam or regular structural timber is suitable? The house is a 1.5-story house built in 1976.

Grateful for tips and help from the experts here on the forum.

Hi, maybe not relevant anymore, but have you considered a steel beam? Doesn't build as much.

It's unfortunate that the first post on the forum hasn't received a response until now. It's necessary to know how the roof structure is designed in order to assess the size of the loads that need to be offset. The simplest way to do this is with a sectional drawing. Information about the snow zone (= location) may also be needed.
