Hi!

I'm currently tearing down our entire upper floor. Out with the old and in with the new... However, I've encountered a problem.

We want to remove the existing inner ceiling and battens to install a new vapor barrier. Right now, the ceiling insulation rests on the older vapor barrier, which will fall out if we remove the old vapor barrier (which isn't airtight). What should I do here? I've thought of a few different options. Which is best or are there other alternatives?

1. Let the ceiling insulation fall down and install a new vapor barrier. Here I would have to rip up the attic floor and put the insulation back.

2. Install a new vapor barrier directly under the existing one. Is this possible? Plastic on plastic? Risk of moisture?

Why tear down the old one???
Is it bad??

Probably not a good idea to put two layers of plastic, probably will get moisture as you say!
