Hello!
I hope I posted this in the right place.
I have a fence around the yard that is estimated to be about 3 years old. In one place, I have a gate held up by two large wooden beams on each side. These beams have developed quite deep cracks.

My question is, should this be addressed and if so, what can be done? Just for appearance's sake, I'm not concerned about the cracks.

Wooden gate with vertical planks, supported by two large wooden posts, in front of a small house with an antenna on the roof.

Large wooden post with deep cracks holding a gate. Other fence panels visible, indicating a potential repair question.

Normally, I would answer no, but since the post in the picture is on the hinge side—and thus moves a little with the gate—the situation is a bit different.

Replacing it is probably best. If for some reason that isn't an option, then apply wood glue into the gap and screw from both directions at 3-4 points, and it should hold.

I wouldn't have done anything...

If it started to move, I would have put a couple of bandjärn (large hose clamps) around the post.

Could probably also put a couple of gångstänger with washers and a nut.
