Hello, I hope someone out there can help me with some questions!

We have acquired a basement space that we will clean and renovate into an office. The space has painted concrete walls and tiled floors. The walls look nice except for a crack in the corner of one room and paint that has peeled off near the ceiling in another.

1: We want to do a deep clean. Can the floor be mopped normally near the walls without fear of moisture damage? And HOW do I prepare/clean the wall before painting? Do I have to clean the wall? (We mainly plan to paint one of the walls from gray to white and fix the cracks.)

2: Can I use putty to fill in the cracks/uneven areas and then paint over it? What type of putty do I need to use?
Basement room with painted concrete walls, tiled floor, wooden shelves, and a window. Visible crack in wall corner near ceiling.

3: CAN you paint on such insulated pipes? (As in the picture) If so, does it require a special type of paint?

I am extremely grateful for answers to my questions and also any other tips and tricks you might have.

P.S. We have bought a dehumidifier.
Thanks!
/Elin

  • Insulated pipes in a basement with tiled floor and painted concrete walls. Pipes run along the wall and ceiling, with visible electrical wire panel.
  • Basement room with tiled floor, utility sink, white concrete walls, overhead pipes, and window with bars; visible wall crack and cleaning supplies on shelf.
Check what color the walls are painted with today before you buy paint. The basement walls should not be repaired with spackel; for small jobs, husfix works well. The gray pipes will be difficult to make look nice when painting.
