Countertop and storage solutions for bathroom
Hello,
I finally have a washing machine in place in the newly renovated bathroom.
Now I'd like to put a countertop above it (yellow-marked area), in line with the sink, and then create some type of storage solution above it (red-marked area).
I have a bunch of questions related to this:
- Recommendation on light countertop material that could fit in?
- Where can I custom order this type of shape, and can it be delivered with holes for electrical cables and water pipes?
- How do you attach the countertop?
- Is this a reasonable project for someone with limited building experience to take on, or should I hire someone for this?
- Do you have any suggestions on how the storage above can be built? My partner is thinking of open shelving, I’m considering a custom-made cabinet to avoid dust (and not have to see everything we’ll likely put on the shelves).
Grateful for ideas and input!

Why a countertop? It's perfectly fine to place/lay towels etc. on top of the washing machine.G gbang said:
Otherwise, a board with laminate is probably the most suitable and cheapest.
How large will the desired cabinet above be?
Width x depth x height?
Presumably, it doesn't go all the way down to the washing machine/countertop?
The reason for the countertop would mainly be aesthetic. I want to hide the hoses from the washing machine and also don't like the current level difference of a few centimeters between the machine and the sink.KnockOnWood said:

My idea was to let the cabinet go all the way down to the countertop. Why would that be unsuitable?
The dimensions of the proposed cabinet space are W38xD25xH117.
Two six-packs of toilet paper fit next to each other without a problem. I also think it will be good for towels and detergent.
