Hello!

I hope I can get some feedback on the next big project, the Workshop Project or as it's called at home, the barn project...

Since I want better ceiling height in the workshop, I will remove the intermediate floor and have full ceiling height there.

The length of the beams is 7 meters, and the space width is 9 meters. The plan is to build up with leca to place the beams on. The idea is also to be able to attach a crane to the beams.

3D model showing roof beams and structure plan for a workshop renovation project needing increased ceiling height and support for a traversing beam.

3D model of a workshop with wooden roof trusses and open spaces for beams, illustrating a structure design for a workshop project.

So the questions:

  1. What do you think about the setup, will it be good, how would you do it?
  2. What do you think the dimension of the beam might be? (will check with a constructor too)
  3. Should you build some kind of truss in the rafters?
  4. Have you done something similar and have any tips to share?

No one has any thoughts to share?

So impatient, does no one have anything to contribute?

It is difficult to have any opinions on such a complicated construction without being a professional and without having the whole picture clear. And we certainly don't want to give unfounded advice that will later prove to be wrong :(

But a small thought: They live in a rather snowy part of the country. How can the trusses you've designed withstand the snow load without pushing the long walls apart? That's one of the main functions of the intermediate floor you plan to remove.

It's best to consult the engineer before planning further! I guess a different truss construction is needed.

Fun to see you, Daniel! Are you going to cast later?

@knockOnWood

Absolutely, I understand that it's hard to say yes or no, my idea is to get input and tips before meeting with the constructor.

The idea is to transfer the weight from the roof from the outer walls and put it on the steel beams instead.

Yep, it will be a concrete slab then.

I would recommend another forum, maskinist.net, where there are plenty of threads on workshop constructions.

Ok, checking there... thanks for the response!
