I was thinking of installing an oil boiler in an 8-10' shipping container and setting it up next to the garage for heating.

There are lots of regulations specifying the distance to other buildings depending on fire rating, etc., but a steel container must have the highest possible fire rating and I should be able to place it just a meter from the garage, right?

No windows, doors, or ventilation holes facing the garage, of course.

Were you thinking of applying for a building permit or do you want to use a container to avoid it?

I am building a boiler house because I don't want to sacrifice space and deal with fire compartments inside the garage. I will not apply for a building permit, and I will clean the chimney myself.
