Hello,
Working on one of the rooms in our house.
The chimney in the room has a glossy white paint on it that we would like to get rid of.
Is it easiest to just paint over it with suitable heat-resistant paint, we're thinking black?
Should we plaster first to make the paint adhere better?
Another option is to remove the outer layer of paint and plaster so the brick is exposed.
Does that work? Or will we damage the functionality of the chimney?

The plan is also to connect a stove in this room. We use the fireplace elsewhere in the house, so the chimney is active.

Attaching pictures, in one picture a small part of the brick is visible as I was a bit too curious :)

  • White-painted chimney breast with a small exposed brick section, surrounded by wooden panel walls, in a room under renovation.
  • Close-up of a chimney wall with white paint, exposing red bricks beneath in a small, chipped section.
