construction drawings / Load-bearing wall?
Hello,
We want to take down a wall to open up between the kitchen and living room in our apartment that we have just purchased (not moved in yet) and have been in contact with the board and property manager who suggested retrieving construction drawings. It is a turn-of-the-century building with older drawings.
We will probably need to bring in a structural engineer to look at this, but we would like to find out if you can already see if the wall is load-bearing or not.
I can also clarify that the wall we want to demolish already has an opening for a door, so we want to widen/take down the remaining wall.
I'm having a hard time interpreting this; I'm trying to see if anyone on this forum can determine if the wall is load-bearing or not. See image

Leo

It is extremely hard to believe that this wall would be load-bearing even if it is not a "simple" gable-roof house. Not least it is incredibly thin on the drawing, short and does not go in a direction that seems load-bearing even if you consider that the house seems to have been extended in stages.L Leo999 said:Hi,

We will probably need to bring in a structural engineer to look at this but would like to find out if it's already possible to see if the wall is load-bearing or not.
I can also clarify that the wall we want to tear down already has an opening for a door, so we want to widen/remove the remaining wall.
I am having a very hard time interpreting this, making an attempt if someone on this forum can decipher whether the wall is load-bearing or not. See image

But with old houses, you never know: There might be a stove on the upper floor right above it, for example, so a structural engineer and inspection before tearing it down is of course recommended.
