We are about to build a Carport and have now received construction drawings for it.

We would now need help with some interpretation of the measurements on the construction drawing for the footing. Could someone explain each measurement on the attached drawing?
(Applies to the black measurements below ground level)

Follow-up question:
Does this entire structure need to be cast, or is there a ready-made footing available to use besides the actual "shoe"?

Grateful for any help!

  • Construction drawing of a concrete foundation for a carport, showing detailed measurements and specifications, including depth and width dimensions.
Search for images of reinforcement stirrups and you'll understand.
For example, Celsa has them on their page.
Then it’s the thickness of the iron that’s stated, e.g., 8mm.
Also, the center-to-center spacing at which the stirrups/irons should be placed, e.g., 200mm.

8mm N bracket 200x200 square

thickness 12mm (A-600 steel quality type) 150x150 standard mesh size in a reinforcement mesh

concrete base 700x700 square 300 high

4fi12-B-150-850=4 pieces of iron with a diameter of 12mm. B-stirrup is a bar bent at 90 degrees and in this case, one side is 150mm and the other is 850mm.
fi12-A-600 s150x150=Iron with a diameter of 12mm. A-iron are completely ordinary straight bars. s150x150 is the center distance between the bars in their respective directions. So 5 bars in each direction.
N-stirrup according to the previous post.

You can reduce the dimension of the A-iron to a diameter of 10mm or even 8mm. 12s are a bit excessive.

That must be for a very large and heavy carport.
I've never seen a Swedish carport with such a rough foundation.

better to build a little larger for future needs / guaranteed to hold up.. instead of just over mini and having to change when you renew, you can see it in many ways

Thank you for all the answers!

How did your construction project go? May I ask how much load you had on the pillars? What type of base shoes did you use?

Curious amateur sketching my own carport.

Unfortunately, a lot of other things came up, and we haven't started construction yet.

I can't find the document right now, but I recall that the load was several tens of tons that the calculated foundation piles would bear, as it is a double carport with roof tiles without any partition or supporting post in the middle. We haven't chosen any post shoe at this stage.

Ok, thought about putting a post in the middle of our, also double carport. Calculated the posts and have come to 90x90 on the outer edge and 115x115 in the middle (building in southern Sweden).

Spontaneously feels like your plinth should be more than sufficient for what we want to build
