I have been looking at a concrete house from 1953. The description says it is lightweight concrete, and a contact in construction advises me against buying, as he claims that all houses were built with blue concrete at that time. The realtor, however, says that it is the white type of lightweight concrete, siporex I believe it's called/named, but he has no documents to support this.
When I pointed this out to my contact, he says it's impossible because siporex was not manufactured so early but came out several years later, and he is very sure of this.
Now to my question. Does anyone know when siporex began its production of lightweight concrete and if it is possible that it is made of this material?
If one were to go for another viewing, would it be possible to see the difference between the different concretes?

Why not conduct a quick radon measurement over 10 days? It is the radon level that is important, not what the house is made of. Otherwise, check with the municipality's (environment and building office) as they usually have information about previous measurements conducted, at least they do with us.
The measurement period for a short-term measurement can be any time of the year and lasts at least 10 days, usually costing a couple of hundred kronor.
Note that radon can also come from the ground and enter the house, which can lead to elevated levels, so don't just focus on the building materials.
Identifying blåbetong is not so difficult (blue-gray in color) but it is often painted over or wallpapered. The other lättbetong is white as chalk.

A simple test is to drill a hole into the lightweight concrete from a secluded space. Then it becomes clear what type it is. You can, for example, drill from a closet, a pantry, or even through the back of an electrical box.

My house was built in 1951 and is constructed in Siporex from Gävle (the invoices are still there). So it might indeed be built in Siporex. My house, where even the inner walls are made of lightweight concrete, has a long-term measurement of 33 bq. My Siporex is NOT white like chalk. It's gray like a Monday in October. /LOB

In fact, it doesn't need to be the same type of lightweight concrete throughout the house either. My house: blåbetong masonry with blocks in exterior walls, prefab lightweight concrete blocks in the floor structure (gray), prefab lightweight concrete blocks in interior walls (white). And half of the house is an additional 50 years older with a wooden frame.

Check the radon level with a test (10 days). If it passes, you're good to go.
It doesn't matter if smaller parts of the house are made of blåbetong. If the entire house is built of it, it will be noticeable in the radon values, and remediation will be required if you plan to buy.

I don't agree with this, at least not if you're not a smoker and it's not at extreme levels.krille09 said:

There is also a big difference between blåbetong and blåbetong, just because it is blue-gray doesn't mean it is highly radioactive. Gamma measurement is the quickest way to directly measure the uranium content in the wall, but of course, radon from the ground is not measured then. But I agree with stoif, with functioning ventilation, which you should have anyway, radon is an insignificant health problem.
