I've noticed that I have a lot of clay under my deck construction. Now that it rains often, there are puddles that sink very very slowly.

Is this something I need to fix? I don't know how deep the clay goes.

If the timber is not standing in water, rot is probably not a danger. What might happen is that the posts/supports for the frame could sink in the clay. That depends on how the posts/supports are constructed. There is a fairly new thread on that problem...

You write "deck building," is the deck under construction? If it's possible to drain the area somehow, then do it while you're at it. It can hardly hurt.

The deck is under construction and since it has rained so much, I have noticed these puddles.

I'm considering trying to dig out the clay holes in hopes of reaching the soil.
