Hello!

I'm leaning towards using the ridge beam with rafters for my garden shed. The shed is 270x506cm and will have a metal roof. I live in Västmanland, so there isn't a lot of snow. Can I manage with a glulam beam of dimension 66x315mm, or do I need to go up to 90x315mm? Does anyone have any input here?

Thank Swedish wood, God's gift to us DIY enthusiasts. :)

What beam did the calculator determine?

66x315 gives a utilization of 67% and a deformation of 19mm, 90x315 is definitely better, as the utilization becomes 46%.

Ok, that's great! Note that it's based on European building codes with Swedish adaptations, so if it's OK according to that, you can be assured it's good enough. :) Especially for a simple building that a friggebod usually is.

Perhaps the roofing requires higher standards (on deflection), but it should be stated in their assembly instructions what is needed.

Yes, 66x315 should be fine 👍🏻

It feels like metal sheeting shouldn't be so sensitive to deflection.
