I am going to remove a wood stove and replace it with a soapstone stove (960 kg) and need to reinforce underneath with a cast "pad". The chimney, which is a steel pipe, will remain during casting and laying of tiles, etc.

How do I attach the chimney - first during the time I cut it off - and then suspend/support it while I work on the floor? The stove is against a flat wall (not a corner).

Would it work to drill holes in the steel pipe and attach hooks for straps in it - the straps would then be fastened to the rafters or similar in the attic?

Very grateful if anyone has (good or bad!) experiences from similar work.
