We received help with casting a new basement entrance with stairs and retaining walls last spring. It was leaking sand from the start, but we didn't think much of it at the time. But now you can clearly see that pieces have come off the vertical sections. Is this normal, or was it done incorrectly? Perhaps something we should report? What can be done about it - can it just be patched or does it need to be redone completely?

(The casting took place in March 2020. It was too small a job to bring in a cement truck, so the cement was mixed on-site by the workers.) Concrete basement staircase with support walls showing wear and cracks. Drain visible at the bottom. A green door on the right side. Outdoor railings on top. Close-up of a concrete wall showing pitted surface and missing pieces, possibly indicating construction issues. Concrete staircase with adjacent wall, showing signs of sand leakage and chipped vertical sections. Built in March 2020 with on-site mixed cement. Concrete surface showing pitting and sand loss from a basement stairway structure, with visible deterioration in the vertical sections.

Salt/lime deposits, completely normal, just wash off with water and a brush
