It's time to replace the 50-year-old door that has done its job. It's warped, I've tried adjusting the hinges and had to sand the frame a bit to be able to close it. Then it started to mold between the glass due to leakage. Time for a replacement!

But now to my concern. The old threshold is embedded in the step down, and I'm pondering what to do with the new door. Is it correct building-wise to do it this way? Should I do the same with the new door?

The options are to do the same or fill the hole from the old threshold with new concrete and place the new frame on top. But then I'll have a space issue at the top. It's likely I'll need to remove a row of bricks then.

Any tips are gratefully received.

I have one of those too. I'll put a protective plate over it and seal it with silicone any year now.
