Capacity of staple gun for installing 15mm boards?

Hello!

I'm considering which staple size is best for installing several 15mm boards - which in turn is crucial for which staple gun to go for.

Is there a good rule of thumb for how far into the underlying material one should go to be really sure that the boards are secured? Off the top of your head - Any tips on a good quality gun that lasts long?

When nailing, the length into the fastening material should be twice the thickness of what is being fastened, so that's a good guideline when you're stapling OSB boards. They are often 15 mm, so 45 mm staples should be suitable. This also depends on whether you are doing something other than just stapling them. If, for example, you are gluing and the staple is mainly to apply pressure and hold it still during the gluing, then you can probably reduce the staple size a bit.

A battery-powered machine will probably cost a lot, I would likely go with compressed air; significantly cheaper and more convenient machines.
