Good tip, I wasn't aware of the scoring trick before, that one will be stored in the good-to-have place inside my head. :)
 
I sawed our countertop without any problems using a jigsaw. I also used a splinter guard on the jigsaw and then it doesn't chip at all. I used a Festool jigsaw, but other brands surely have similar splinter guards you can attach to the saw before cutting.
