I have a friggeboda that needs scraping and repainting - it has horizontal boards and I'm considering instead putting up new vertical boards without removing the old ones.

I was just thinking of putting a small horizontal batten (how big?) for ventilation and then nailing up new boards.

Is this a bad idea due to something I'm not considering?

You won't save any time, on the contrary. If the timber isn't bad, I think you should repaint!

Post a picture of what you think looks the worst. But spontaneously, I agree that it should be repainted.

do you see any problem besides it might take a little more time that I need to buy new boards.
with problem I mean moisture mold or something else.

I was out checking and on some boards, paint has disappeared from about 1 square centimeter and there is like a yellow powder on the surface of the board - no hole, just a surface layer of yellow powder.

Wondering what it could be.

I'm torn between just repainting or installing vertical boards.

Probably an oxidized paint. Wash with painter's soda and a stronger brush. Let it dry and examine again.

If you want a new facade, it's no problem. Make sure you have an air gap of 15-20mm vertically. As long as the air can circulate, nothing happens. If you also want to keep out mice, you can nail on perforated strap from underneath. No rodents can get through this.

Good luck.

P.S. if you decide to repaint, be careful with the choice of paint! You can't mix colors just any way you like.

Depending on whether it's a flat or sloped panel, it can be a bit challenging to achieve a flat batten, but other than that, I don't really see any problems with it.
