Can we skip air gap and wind barrier?

We are going to put new siding on the house and for some parts we are not planning to remove the old stockpanel. Behind it is wind paper without an air gap. Do we need to install new wind paper and also an air gap for the new siding?

To protect the panel and exterior walls, I definitely think you should install both wind barrier and air gap. This will give you a panel that will last a long time.
