Hello,

Is there anyone who can help us calculate the dimension of a glulam beam/HEA beam? We are planning to extend our kitchen and will need to remove part of the exterior wall where the support for 3 roof trusses and 1 scissors truss is located. The distance between the exterior wall and the glulam beam is 4,100 mm. The existing glulam beam for our vaulted ceiling also needs to be extended by 1,900 mm. The dimension of the current glulam beam is 90 x 270 mm. I am attaching a jpg file where I have marked in purple the new beams I think are needed, as well as the existing roof plan and truss drawings. I hope someone can help us with this.

Best regards, Olof

Hello Olof!
In order to calculate this, you need complete measurement details. The best would be a floor plan where the extension is clearly indicated.

Thanks for the quick response (y):D
I'm traveling right now so I can only send a picture of the floor plan.
Not sure if that's enough?
I can upload it as a pdf on Wednesday otherwise.

The beam that replaces the external wall should approximately be 90x360 (alternatively 140x315 which is equivalent). I think you should hire a structural engineer who can assess the conditions on-site. Your model is a bit complicated and it's important to get an external perspective.
