Hello!
Does anyone know where in Skåne one can buy raw oak, sturdy beams for furniture carpentry?

I live in Svalöv, but I'm prepared to drive a bit if I find a good saw!
Hello...
Picking up the thread as I too am looking for this... in my case, I am interested in around 40x40 beams of solid oak...
a solution I'm currently considering is buying a thick (38mm) glued laminated countertop and asking the building supply store to cut it into 40 widths, then planing it down to 38mm. In this way, I get 38x38 mm beams for about 200 SEK per linear meter...
does anyone know what I would have to pay for beams of that dimension otherwise?!
Thanks in advance

I have myself been looking for planks for a staircase. I then came across this company in Göinge that mostly advertises flooring and moldings, but they have their own oak forests and a sawmill. They can probably deliver even larger dimensions. Then, of course, it's always a question of price.

Otherwise, you can check with companies that cut down trees on plots and "problem trees" they should have some oak logs left over from time to time.

SWE_Monstro, what are you planning to use the beams for? What lengths? I don't think your suggestion to start with a laminated countertop will work well because these countertops are jointed in length. They hold up as countertops, but if you reduce the dimension to just 38 mm width, the beams will break in the length joint.
I buy rough-cut oak 2x2" (52x52 mm) for about 40 SEK/meter in lengths ranging from 800-1400 mm. I don't know the price for longer pieces.

The beams will be used as the framework in a HiFi cabinet and two coffee tables I plan to build, and I now realize, just as fn76 mentions, that the edge-glued panels will not hold if they are cut... thanks for that insight...
Thanks also to Kalarne for the link tip, I live down in Skåne near the company, so I will call them during the day... exciting...
I'll let you know later what I find out...

In Gothenburg, there's http://www.abi-tra.se who are skilled in various types of wood...
