Our staircase, which is 6 meters long and stands at a 45-degree angle (more like a ladder actually), will be transformed into smart storage, which is lacking in an old school from 1897. So it slopes, and there is a good bit to work with. Now I wonder where one can find materials to make cabinets or frames that can be rolled out so you can easily reach everything? The staircase is 90 cm wide, and I had thought to take advantage of as much as possible of this depth for the storage units! Has anyone done something similar or know where I can find the information?
To explain a bit clearer, I imagine it looks like several doors that you can pull out, and there are shelves or other things that keep a large family's belongings organized...
I've been thinking about doing something similar, but my staircase isn't nearly as long/high.
I thought I'd make it simple by buying IKEA Billy shelves on Blocket and then attaching four wheels underneath. Other shelves work too, of course, but the advantage of Billy is that it's easy to buy more if needed. Plus, it's easy to find storage baskets, etc., that fit the dimensions.
It's important to ensure they can't tip over when extended! If you create a small block on the floor near the outer edge, and a corresponding block on the shelf at the inner edge, it should prevent them from being pulled out completely. The inner top edge should be stabilized by the adjacent shelves, reducing the risk of tipping.
Now I don't know how high or wide yours will be, but the same principle would work with wider storage shelves, so you can access from two sides instead (if possible, it doesn't work for me). Then it wouldn't tip as easily.
Reviving an older thread, but has anyone done something similar?
I have about 90cm in depth, and the question is whether drawers with that depth are feasible? Or if shelves, like ELFA, and a door are better, but then so much space is lost.
Another thought was to take such frames and put wheels on them and some type of rails to ensure they don't move too freely. Maybe MDF on them to fit into the space under the stairs similar to the picture above. But the question is whether they are sturdy enough to both have wheels and hold some weight while still being able to roll?
Hello!
I'm on the same track with our new house. How did it go for you, what did you do? I'd love to have storage on rails as I think it looks more sleek. I don't want it to look "homemade." And I'm a beginner, so I might be biting off more than I can chew. Is there a good guide? Tips? Thanks!
