Anyone with experience ordering goods and picking them up in Karlskrona?
No, but I can share how I did it if it might help someone. I went down to Castorama in Gdynia and grabbed a store employee to be my personal shopper. After I paid, I took his email address and told him that if he took personal responsibility for everything being in the delivery, I would send him a reward. Then I called and ordered delivery from the stores in Gdynia to our construction site in Nacka. Once I got the goods, I emailed the guy, thanked him for his help, and asked where I could send the reward. The idea is that the next time I need a new delivery, I just email him the list without having to go down to Gdynia. We'll see how it goes.
For more exclusive kakel/klinkers, I have contact with a firm in Gdynia that puts together what I need.
Otherwise, I like to personally go down to Poland to see what's new. My hope is to go once a year but place several orders in the same year.

Regards,
David

Hi David.

What was the cost of the shipping and how big/heavy was the item you sent?
I need to go down to Poland myself this summer, but some more urgent items could be ordered after.

The shipping cost 8,500 excl. VAT. I believe the truck took 33 pallets. I don't remember the maximum weight.

David

AHA!
Did you have the entire truck by yourself?
Is the price with the ferry and everything?

Doesn't sound so bad.

No, doesn't it sound cheap? The truck is driven all the way up to Sweden as far as I know. That is, they don't take the ferry.

Has anyone bought clothes in Poland? I'm going over during Easter break and my two teenage daughters are wondering if it's possible to shop for clothes there. Does anyone have tips on where to go as we will be in Swinoujscie-Szczecin?

Didn't see any exciting clothing stores where I was. Otherwise, most Eastern Bloc countries usually have the traditional clothing stores like Boss, etc. The selection is usually so-so, and the prices are about the same as in Sweden.

Regards,
David

We have stayed at both SAS Radison and at IBIS hotel. IBIS costs 155 PLN per night on a weekend - and also has family rooms... SAS Radison is clearly expensive in comparison - but is more luxurious. IBIS is a budget hotel for business travelers (available throughout Europe), located in the center and has a monitored garage (25 PLN per night / vehicle). Breakfast is extra.

Otherwise, maybe http://www.hotelewpolsce.com.pl/m_szczec.htm can be helpful.

I have written more posts earlier about Stettin / Szczecin that can provide more info about shopping here. Use, for example, the forum's search function to find these!

Regarding the claim earlier in this thread about the customs station between Poland and Germany when traveling by land via, for example, Sassnitz or Rostock, I would argue that this no longer aligns with reality. We traveled ourselves this weekend via Sassnitz to Stettin, and the only thing checked at the border was our passports. This was despite having a large trailer with us that should have interested customs officers...

EU membership has probably changed some of the rules that applied 'earlier'...

Another positive thing about the EU. Hopefully, the German customs took the opportunity to clean up their staff at the same time.

Hello!
We're considering going to Poland to buy building materials.
Check out www7.stenaline.se where you can click on "-Sveriges billigaste priser finns i Polen".
There are maps of stores, and you can also get some price examples from the stores' campaign leaflets. Good luck!
