I want to build an interior wall with a door, I have bought a door and made a sketch, calculated materials and tried to read online, I am thinking of a wooden frame, since I am a bit of a novice on this project I have a couple of questions if someone has the opportunity to give some advice.

1. Can the top plate consist of 2 studs? (Mostly for material transport)

2. There is a wooden floor from the 70s, is it okay to just drive wood screws through the sole plate, read about tape being placed underneath otherwise, does it work?

3. The side walls are plastered, do I need to find studs (they are not in line with each other)? Or should I use some type of plug and screw for plasterboard?

4. The ceiling is an older wood ceiling, do I need to find studs (they are not in line with the wall studs) or do wood screws work?

5. Is it best to toenail 4 nails into each stud?

Thanks in advance!

  • Wooden ceiling with long, narrow planks and visible knots, featuring a light fixture and electrical cable at the bottom edge.
  • Image of a wooden floor from the 1970s with a radiator in the background, relevant to a discussion about constructing an interior wall.
Depending on whether you want to restore without too much impact, I would probably tape (double-sided) a 70mm steel track with maybe some screws in the floor at the doorway, and a steel track on the ceiling that is screwed in. Then, place 45x70 timber studs in the steel profiles, and the stud by the wall should be screwed into the wall. It is good if the length of the studs is precise so they are slightly tensioned between the floor and the ceiling. Place the studs and screw in OSB + gypsum, install the door with 118mm frame depth + moldings.
