We have bought a lakefront property that slopes to the north, with the view also facing north, as well as the entrance to the house. I find it very difficult to figure out which house might fit and would like to have some idea of what I prefer before possibly contacting an architect.
The maximum building height is 5 meters, and we are deciding between building a two-story house (with slightly slanted ceilings on the upper floor) or a split-level house. Does anyone know how to calculate building heights when it's split-level? I imagine, somewhat simplified of course, taking a two-story house and dividing it vertically, then placing the upper half on a ground level 1-1.5 meters higher. This would mean following the terrain more, but does the building height end up being higher than for the two-story house?
For split-level houses, I understand that you measure the average ground level, but I dislike split-levels and would rather have a house with smaller levels where all floors are above ground.

As usual, different interpretations can be made. I would spontaneously calculate the ridge height based on the total average ground level for both levels. But some municipalities/administrators divide the house into two bodies if there is a difference in ground level and calculate them separately.
Still, I would recommend the split-level solution if the plot works for it. Blasting is expensive, and you weren't so keen on a sloping lot.
