At the back of the house, adjacent to our stone-paved patio, there needs to be a slope due to the overall incline of the plot.

Our plan is to have decorative stones in this slope to make it look nice.
However, to be somewhat practical, we probably need to incorporate some form of stairs where you can walk down.

To show approximately how large the slope is, I have borrowed a picture from someone else that illustrates this; it will be roughly like this picture.
In other words, a fairly small slope.

So to my question:
How easy is it to install a small staircase here?
The staircase doesn't need to be wide, I'm thinking maybe 50-60cm.
I would guess no more than 3 steps in height are needed.
Can I just buy paving stones and stack them to build up?

  • Small slope by a patio with gravel and a red shovel; a wooden plank is placed on the ground. A tarp and greenery surround the area.
You can use some type of brick, for example. I used Slottsmur. Then you need to measure to reach the right level against the ground stone and calculate the number of steps based on that. Slottsmur, for example, is 15 cm high if I remember correctly, then there's a certain slope per step, maybe 0.5 - 1 cm. You need to dig out two dm in the slope to lay in 0-18 first, pack it, and then you set the steps in chippings. Start from the bottom and then just lay the next layer with a little overlap.

The hardest part is probably getting the top step to level with the ground stone. The best is to measure as accurately as possible. Even if it goes wrong, it's not entirely impossible to redo it in the worst case.
