We are renovating the former residential house on the property, and under a part of it, perhaps 1/4 or 1/5 of the house, there is an old boiler room (used until the 1950s?). The rest of the house stands on rock/soil.

I would like to furnish it and use it as a food and wine cellar. Is it possible, and does anyone know where I can find instructions on what to consider? Alternatively, share your own experiences and knowledge?

I want it to be dry (it is dry today as far as the eye can see), ensure my goods don't freeze in the winter or go bad in the summer, and of course paint and fix it to make it pleasant to use.

I enjoy tinkering and want this as my own little project. Thanks in advance!

  • Old house exterior wall with a wooden door leading to a cellar. Plastic sheeting covers part of the wall. Bushes and a lawn are in the foreground.
  • Old boiler room with damaged plaster walls, wooden frames leaning against the wall, and a small window letting in sunlight; outdoor grass visible through doorway.
  • Old furnace room with peeling paint, tools, and building materials. Plans to transform into a food and wine cellar; seeking advice for renovation.
