Planning to build a new house and of course, I want to have an open fireplace in the house. The purpose of the fireplace is that it should provide heat for a good while after the fire has stopped burning, so I have given up on those regular wood-burning stoves like Contura with sheet metal chimneys. I was thinking of either constructing my own chimney with bricks or buying ready-made chimney kits that consist of leca blocks.

The question now is whether it will be cheaper to build one myself with bricks or buy a ready-made one? I need to have 2 channels in it, one for the open fireplace in the living room and then one for the wood stove in the kitchen.

If you build it yourself, what are the minimum dimensions for the flue? Perhaps one large channel is enough for both if made large enough?
