Bricklaying on a floor with stone slabs
I am planning to build wine shelves with lightweight concrete blocks (Multiplattan interior) in a room in the basement. Today, there are large stone slabs on the floor, and my idea is to just lay a layer of mortar directly on the stone slabs and then continue building upwards. Is this a bad idea? Should one instead glue or apply a primer first? Other suggestions?
There shouldn't be any problems. As long as there's concrete (or equivalent) underneath, it should be fine; it stands still on its own and its own weight. I've helped build directly on both tiles and marble floors, and it has never been a question of removing anything underneath.
Masonry of different types is generally quite heavy, so it should probably stay in place anyway. Possibly, you can drive in a dowel (like a piece of rebar) to anchor it to the floor, just to be on the safe side.JJPersson said:
