I have an inner panel with a thickness of 15 mm for which they recommend 1.2 mm x 50 mm brad nails for the installation. I am planning to attach it directly to interior walls consisting of 16 mm Plywood or on sparse ceiling panels of 22 mm.

If you shoot brad nails into the tongue, it's about 10 mm of material it has to go through, then 16 mm Plywood. If you don't hit a stud, you're shooting 50 - (10+16) = 24 mm into the insulation.

Is there any point in choosing a shorter brad nail (like 40 mm) or does it risk making the panel loose?
