Need to build a bench with storage for our glass porch. The bench length is about 190 cm and the seat height is 45 cm (?normal height). The front and sides will be covered with beadboard.
What seat depth would be suitable if we imagine the bench is for comfortable coffee breaks? Want to make room for some cushions to lean against. Would 60 cm work?
What material is most suitable for the lid? MDF, chipboard, plywood, etc.?
The lid will be quite large and with that, there's a risk that it will also be heavy. Is it maybe best to divide it into 2 parts of 95 cm each or maybe even 3 parts of 63 cm each?

If you want small hatches, build the bench first, then cut out hatches, e.g., 30x40 cm, round off the corners generously and cut out with a jigsaw. Attach thin battens under the board, so you can place the loose covers on the battens. This construction is common in boats.

Hello!
I'm planning to build a bench using some of IKEA's lowest wall cabinets. If you put a large drawer insert in them instead of hinges, you'll have a sort of kitchen sofa with drawers that can be pulled out. The cabinets are 60 x 60 and 35 cm high.

Yes, I assume so. They are made of the same boards as all other cabinets, e.g. the base cabinets. So I'm not worried about that at all.
But in the bench construction, there will probably be some form of beams underneath them and, of course, feet or a plinth. Then I thought of using a regular wooden countertop as the seating surface. And lastly, a cushion and many pillows.

We were also considering that solution for a while after seeing the construction at IKEA but decided against it since we need to store items that take up a bit more space and the kitchen cabinets are too small.pinebar said:
During the day, we have put together a frame and covered it with beadboard. Now it's just the doors and a little finishing touch left
