I'm building a new garage in 240mm lightweight concrete (Ytong from Xella) with two garage doors on the long side. Over the doors, we have placed U-beams with reinforcement (4 pieces of 12mm with 8mm stirrups at cc120mm) and cast them. According to Xella's website, this provides a bearing capacity of just under 5kN/m for an opening of 2400mm, which we have. One of those helping me build is a trained bricklayer and believes these beams are strong enough, but my construction supervisor is unsure. Is there anyone out there who knows about this?
I have space to place an IPS140 on top of the concrete beams if needed.
The garage is 6.5x9m and will have a roof with a 45-degree pitch, providing space for storage in the attic. The outer roof will be Nortegel. The trusses are prefab and have double 45x220mm in the bottom chord to handle the span. The intermediate beams are also double.
