Hello.

I will soon start building up the basement walls for my extension. There will be some door and window openings on load-bearing walls where I will need to have beams over. Until today, I have been considering using Leca beams. But then I have now seen the price of them...

The idea is to instead use regular glulam beams. First question.
Can you plaster on them without causing any issues? It feels a bit off to place wood on Leca even though it's above ground.

Follow-up question: I was thinking if you can place 2 L-steel over the openings and build with regular Leca on that?

Reinforcement question: Can you use galvanized reinforcement bars for exterior use, or is it only stainless that are suitable? Which cost twice as much...

Thanks!

The mason cast concrete beams over windows and doors on site, but there were no wide window sections. The basement was built with isoleca.

Isoleca. Then it's above ground I guess?
Well, cast-in-place is clearly another option. However, glulam is quite easy to calculate and show the calculations. Cast-in-place is a bit more difficult for me to calculate.

Yes, souterrain basement and probably only 2 rows underground at most
