Hello
I have started digging to expand the basement area outside the house. The reason is to make room for a new accumulator tank and firewood storage.
The basement is being dug along the long side of the house and a bit "past" the house. On top, the plan is to build a deck with a roof on part of it and without a roof on another part.
I am considering using a wooden joist for the ceiling (in the basement). Type 2"x8", but how do I make it waterproof? Roofing felt? Does there need to be a slope, which complicates matters for the deck floor? Since I prefer the patio door to be openable, I can't have too thick a basement ceiling and maintain a decent ceiling height in the basement.
How do I insulate? Do I need double plasterboard on the ceiling in the basement since it will be a boiler room?
The span for the ceiling will be 4.5m; can I manage that without support in the middle with joined planks as I described above? (Join by nailing a plank on each side or similar)
Hope to get some tips!
