Hello!

I currently have a sleeping loft (2.30m×1.65m) attached to two walls and the pillar that stands in the middle of the room. Now I'm considering extending the loft to the left, so that it goes all the way to the window. The dimensions would thus be 2.30m×1.65m + 1.78m×0.9m. In other words: the entire long side, but deeper where the bed stands (1.65), and about 0.90 in depth where the green cupboard currently stands. On this part, I might consider building custom cabinets up to the ceiling.

Now to my questions:
1. Is it possible to frame such a large loft, a total length of 4.08, using only the three walls, or will I need to add a supporting pillar somewhere in the middle?
2. How much height should one aim for above the loft? Currently, I have 1.17, but the feeling is that it should be enough with about 0.8. I would like to raise the loft a bit, so the room feels more "open." Total ceiling height is about 3.35.
3. What do you think is the best solution regarding the ladder? Attach it to the wall or have a "mobile" ladder that can be moved?

Best regards, Henning

  • Loft bed attached to walls with a ladder, above a desk and sofa. A green wardrobe and plants decorate the space.
I would say that 0.8 is too low, but it depends on what you want to do in bed.
The minimum is probably that you can sit up comfortably, about 120 cm.

  • Laddar…
A library ladder would have been nice, so you can roll it away against the wall when it's not used.
